KVOE's Mitten Trees have been picked up and the donations attached to the trees will soon be distributed to those in need.

The annual donation opportunity, which began in November, sees community members donate hats, scarves, coats and other winter wear to SOS by decorating the several trees across town with them.

This year a total of 692 items were donated by residents for those in need. SOS Director Connie Cahoone says the community's generosity could not have come at a better time.

Six trees were spread out in the community at locations including Graves Drug, Mel's Tire, Bluestem Farm and Ranch Supply, Flint Hills Mall courtesy of Dr. Marlin Flanagin DDS, the Emporia Public Library courtesy of Carghill Inc. and Advanced Dermatology and Skin Cancer Center.
