The Lyon County Commission saw a number of purchase requests and approved the renewal of a contract during their weekly action session Thursday morning.

Lyon County Sheriff Jeff Cope was in attendance to present the Sheriff's Office annual purchase request for new department vehicles. Cope presented a bid of $193,300 from Clint Bowyer Autoplex for the purchase of seven new vehicles including six 2019 Dodge 1500 four-door pickup trucks and one 2019 Dodge Caravan for the Lyon County detention center for transports.

Cope says the number of purchases is relatively the same from year to year.

The total cost will be split between two separate funds with $171,000 coming from the Law Enforcement Capital Outlay to pay for the six trucks. The second fund is the Jail Capital Outlay which will cover the $22,300 cost of the new Caravan.

The vehicles removed from service will either be sold on Purple Wave or to other county entities with the proceeds being put back into Capital Outlay. Along with the vehicle purchases Cope presented a request to purchase equipment from TCS to outfit each of the new department vehicles.

This includes purchasing new cameras, lights, grill guards, gun locks and equipment storage among other equipment. All items were approved 3-0.

Also during the meeting commissioners voted to renew the existing contract with Silverson Security for 2019. Silverson Security is a local security agency which was founded in 2006 by owner/chief Bryan Silverson.

Commission Chair Rollie Martin says he feels it is important to have local security on hand for local events.

No changes were made to the contract other than the dates of events where security will need to be present.

Commissioners also approved two quotes from Lyon County Engineer Chip Woods. The first quote, from G.W. Van Keppel Company was for a 2016 Etnyre Chipspreader for a total of $145,000.
The second quote, from Frank Black Pipe and Supply was for approximately 1,570 feet of used 12’’ casing for an estimated amount of $15,880. Both items were approved 3-0.

In other business, commissioners approved the KCAMP 2019 annual premium for a total of $256,103 and the K-WORC 2019 annual work comp. premium for a total of $184,512.
