USD 251 Northern Lyon County Superintendent Mike Mathes provided some updates on several ongoing district matters.

During the USD 251 Board of Education meeting Wednesday evening, Mathes presented his quarterly budget update to the board. Mathes tells KVOE News the budget is in great shape.

Last year the district saw a budget cut of $200,000 after the closing of Reading Elementary as a cost-saving measure. Mathes commented on the current state of the property saying the district has offered the building to Reading City Council.

According to Mathes, the council is currently in the midst of determining whether or not they can afford to maintain the building.

Also during the board meeting, members heard principal reports from Northern Heights Highschool Principal Peggy Fort and Northern Heights Elementary School Principal Corey Wiltz. Board members also considered appointments to the Board Negotiations team and a representative to the Board's Calendar Committee.
