SOS Director recaps operations and numbers from 2018 KVOE File Photo

SOS Director Connie Cahoone joined KVOE's Newsmaker segment Thursday morning to review the work of SOS from 2018 and look ahead to 2019.

According to Cahoone, SOS staff put in a lot of work throughout last year as their crisis services alone served over 18,000 services in 2018. That number is up nearly 4,000 services from 2017.

Cahoone adds SOS is currently serving 100 children in the court system which equates to 35 percent.

Cahoone attributes the rise in services to ongoing efforts which are helping to promote SOS and their services. She names SOS Strong as one of these efforts.

Cahoone says the future is looking bright for SOS despite the loss of a federal grant through SOS Kansas last year.

Cahoone happily reported thanks to events and efforts such as SOS Strong and Hope-a-Palooza as well as donations from the community and volunteers they have not had to let any employees go or cease any services.  Currently, SOS employs 49 individuals on both a full-time and part-time basis.

SOS will be holding their annual Hope-a-Palooza March 22nd with more information coming on that at a later time.
