Travel will be hazardous Friday and Saturday, thanks to a series of factors as a winter storm hits the area.

Up to three inches of snowfall is now expected across the KVOE listening area. Snowfall should be over by sunrise Saturday.

However, blustery conditions and biting cold will cause travel issues all night and possibly through much of Saturday. Winds as high as 35 mph will blow and drift snow. Wind chills will go below zero with overnight lows in the mid-teens.

Due to inclement weather, the following schedule adjustments have been reported for the weekend:

*Emporia State Choral Department's Madrigal Dinner postponed until Feb. 23.
*Flint Hills Shootout seventh-place games will be played at noon Friday instead of Saturday.

Travel problems develop before midnight as lows drop into the mid-teens and northerly winds crank up to around 30-35 mph. This will lead to blowing and drifting snow -- meaning poor visibility -- and wind chills below zero. In other words, conditions will not be fit for man or beast tonight, and speaking of beasts the David Traylor Zoo has been making preparations all week for the biting cold. Director Lisa Keith says some animals love the cold. Others suffer greatly if exposed.

Road crews are ready. City Street Supervisor Mike Dvorak says crews may have to salt streets, and they may have to wait until the changeover from rain to snow before starting that process. Assistant County Engineer Jim Brull's crews are preparing to blade roads if needed.

Conditions should improve by Saturday evening with lighter winds. Overnight lows will be in the low teens.
