The Coppertop in Emporia was the host of Beta Sigma Phi's annual Heart Dance event Saturday night.

The annual evening, which has been a partnership between Beta Sigma Phi and Newman Regional Health since it's infancy provides funds each year for Newman's Cardiac Care Center. Saturday marked the 69th year for the Heart Dance and dance chairperson Sherry Willard discusses what she feels makes the night so enjoyable.

Those in attendance enjoyed a cocktail hour where they could socialize with one another before the dancing got underway. As previously mentioned all proceeds from the event go to Newman Regional Health and specifically aid with cardiac rehab.

NRH Cardiac Rehab Case Manager Erin Wilson explains how the funds allow them to serve their patients.

Funds for the event are generated on two fronts according to Willard. This includes the ticket sales for the dance which also helps to pay for the food and music and local sponsors whose funds all go straight to Newman.

According to Willard, plans are already formulating for the 70th annual Heart Dance next year. Nothing has been solidified, however, with next year's event taking place in 2020, Willard tells KVOE News they are looking forward to a possible roaring 20's theme.

Fundraising totals will be announced at a later time.
