The 2019 Kansas Chamber Leadership Kansas Class has been announced.

A nationally recognized program, Leadership Kansas is focused on developing and motivating leaders from all over the state. Kansas Chamber President & CEO Alan Cobb says in a press release "The program helps develop our state leaders to make Kansas a stronger and more vibrant business engine."

According to the press release this year saw over 600 nominations submitted. Out of that field, 40 individuals were selected to make up the 2019 class.

One of those individuals was Emporia's own Mickey Edwards. Edwards is the state director for the Kansas Casa Association.

Edwards says she was thrilled to learn she had been selected.

Edwards began as a volunteer for CASA of the Flinthills in the late 90's before being appointed as CASA of the Flinthills Executive Director in 1998. She served in that position until she was appointed to lead Kansas CASA in 2015.

Edwards tells KVOE News she participated in Leadership Emporia several years ago and is excited to take what she learned from that opportunity to the next level.

The six-month Leadership Kansas program consists of three-day educational training sessions in different communities across the state. The 2019 Leadership program will begin in late April with an orientation session in Lawrence and will conclude in October.
