White Auditorium was the place to be Saturday night to sample a wide selection of wine, beer and foods from across Kansas.

The Taste took place at White for the 20th year in a row and featured more than 20 vendors from all parts of the state. Emporia Main Street Director Casey Woods attributes the event's longevity to Main Street sticking with a simple formula.

This year's Taste saw several returners, including Vault Meat and Cheeses. Rick Garcia has participated in the Taste twice, once as a student of Flint Hills Technical College and now as an employee of Vault. He says there are numerous reasons he enjoys attending the Taste, including interacting with the community, the camaraderie between vendors and most importantly...

A new face to the event this year was that of the Emporia Country Club. Fronthouse Manager Amanda Withers says having the opportunity to network with local wineries, breweries and distillers allow for the possibility to expand the selection of spirits and beverages offered at the Country Club in the future.

Along with the classic taste was the VIP experience where individuals were able to dine on a four-course meal prepared by FHTC culinary arts students. Woods says this part of the evening is an educational experience which benefits both the diners and the students.

Woods adds the Taste is the one event each year where all proceeds go directly back to Emporia Main Street. Fundraising totals will be announced at a later date.
