Lyon-Coffey picks new GM as merger continues with Radiant Lyon-Coffey Electric Cooperative logo

As Lyon-Coffey Electric Cooperative continues its merger with Radiant Electric, it has also picked a new general manager.

Dennis Svanes currently serves as La Plata Electric Association's chief financial officer, overseeing such matters as accounting, billing and enterprise risk management. La Plata serves around 33,000 customers in the Durango, Colorado, area and is the state's fifth-largest electric cooperative.

Earlier, Svanes moved up the ladder from accountant to CEO of KEM Electric in North Dakota. He has also worked for Knife River Corporation in Bismarck, North Dakota, and a public accounting firm in Grand Forks, North Dakota.

A North Dakota native, Svanes has a bachelor's degree in accountancy from the University of North Dakota. He is a certified public accountant and a charter global management accountant.

Members of both Lyon-Coffey and Radiant overwhelmingly approved a consolidation effort last fall. The new cooperative, 4 Rivers Electric, will start operations on New Year's Day. Svanes' role in the merged company has not been announced.
