Traffic on part of East 12th will need to work around part of the city's downtown sewer renovation project.

Crews have blocked off 12th at Market and Exchange to start renovations immediately south of Schallenkamp Hall, Emporia State's new residence hall that will come online this fall. Parts of Exchange and Highland are also blocked.

City Engineer Jim Ubert anticipates the project will take most of this week to finish, and 12th will be blocked the entire time due to the sewer work and resulting pavement repairs.

Additional sidewalk work is planned for the second half of the week on 12th between Commercial and Mechanic.

Crews also continue renovations elsewhere in the downtown vicinity, with crews continuing to push south of West 12th over the past three weeks. The entire project should be completed by spring 2020.
