Family Promise of the Flint Hills is continuing to raise funds towards opening the local chapter of the national organization to combat homelessness around Lyon County.

The mission statement of Family Promise is to help families experiencing homelessness and low-income families attain sustainable independence through a community-based response. There are several methods the organization utilizes to see this mission come true, says Doug Epp, Chair for Family Promise of the Flint Hills.

Epp also says the local need for this family service is higher than most would expect and that there is a specific qualification to be eligible for Family Promise's assistance.

The fundraising goal is $73,000, which will account for opening expenses and six months of operational costs. Progress of the efforts is planned to be determined this Sunday.

Anyone searching for more information or planning to donate can visit the website at familypromiseoftheflinthills.org or call Doug Epp at (620) 481-9725. Checks or cash donations can be sent to First Baptist Church at 807 Constitution St.
