Community theater reviving this weekend with WEACT performance of 'Woogala Boogala' WEACT logo

Five years after organized community theater halted in Emporia, it is being revived this weekend.

WEACT, or We are the Emporia Arts Council Theatre, is taking the place of Community Theatre of Emporia, which disbanded in 2014 after operating for 34 years. WEACT will debut with a children's show -- "Woogala Boogala" -- and play director Tonya Starr says big things are coming for the group next year.

On KVOE's Morning Show on Friday, Starr said there was enough interest in "Woogala Boogala" among local kids that the show has two different casts. Starr says the show is an "interesting mix" of fairy tale characters.

Performances will be at the Peter Pan Park boathouse at 6 pm Friday and Saturday. In case of bad weather, performances will move inside to the Arts Center Davis Theater at 815 Commercial.

For more information, call the Arts Center at 343-6473 or find the group on Facebook.
