The start of a new school year is just around the corner and Emporia State University is getting ready to welcome new students to campus.

While orientation activities officially get underway this week, Senior Director of the Center for Student Involvement Rachel Kohman, a recent guest of the ESU Buzz, says several students have already had an opportunity to familiarize themselves with the campus and the local community. ESU recently held its E Experience, which is a two-day 24-hour opportunity for new students to connect with on-campus resources and opportunities.

Kohman says the E Experience is an event open to all new students.

According to Kohman around 300 students attended this year's E Experience. ESU President Allison Garret says these types of events are a key instrument in helping with retention for the university. Official orientation activities will get underway this Friday with move-in day from 7:30 am to 1 pm. This will launch a full week of welcoming activities from Friday to the following Sunday including dinners, group activities, movie nights and much more.

Before Friday's kickoff, however, there will also be a special event for non-traditional students Thursday evening at the Skyline Room inside the Memorial Union.

Cocktails with the Community will take place from 5 to 7 pm Thursday evening. For a full list of ESU Orientation activities click here.
