Local motorists will soon be able to travel the Prairie Street Overpass yet again.

Assistant Lyon County Engineer Jim Brull tells KVOE News work on the project is near completion. Last week crews applied a polymer to the bridge overnight and have a bit of cosmetic and cleanup work to complete before the bridge will reopen to the public.

Brull says the recent weather patterns have caused a bit of difficulty for crews, however, it has not set the work schedule back at all.

Brull adds crews may need to conduct an additional pull test before they can open the bridge back up to traffic. He explains pull testing is done to ensure the epoxy coating which has been placed on the deck adheres with the strength it needs to.

Work on the overpass began back in late June and included a replacement of approaches and deck repairs before the recent epoxy was applied. County Engineer Chip Woods told KVOE News at the start of the project the bridge is structurally sound but had seen "minimal maintenance" over the years leading to the need for repair work.

Brull anticipates the bridge will be reopened between the middle and end of this week.
