The Newman Regional Health Auxillary presented their annual scholarships to five hardworking recipients Tuesday afternoon.

Five local students, all planning to pursue a future in the medical field, were presented with their scholarships inside the Flint Hills Conference Room at Newman Regional Health by members of the Auxillary. Each of the recipients has to go through a "rigorous" application process to be considered for one of the scholarships.

Auxiliary member Carolyn Hossfeld explains exactly what the process entails.

The scholarship also required that students live within a six-county area that includes Lyon, Chase, Coffey, Greenwood, Morris, and Osage counties

According to Hossfeld, the Auxilliary has provided more than five individuals with scholarships in the past. However, due to budgetary reasons, the Auxiliary decided to provide five students with $2,000 each for two semesters this year.

Recipient Rachael Bolinger is planning to pursue a future in Oncology and tells KVOE News it is a great feeling to be one of this year's scholarship recipients.

The Auxiliary raises the scholarship funds through the hospital's snack bar, gift shop, and multiple fundraisers held throughout the year. For more information on the scholarship and the auxiliary visit

The scholarship recipients include:
Sadie Trear
Austin Umana
Hannah Stump
Rachele Bolinger
Megan Beitz
