A record $17,000 fundraising total highlighted the tenth annual Wade's Ride Saturday morning.

The annual event, held since 2010, is in honor of the memory of Wade Barrett who sadly passed away from sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) in June of the same year. Each year Wade's ride raises funds for HALO-style sleep sacks for newborn babies at Newman Regional Health and helps to fund the annual Community Baby Shower which takes place in the spring.

After nine years of being hosted at the Wagon Wheel, this year's Wade's Ride saw a change of venue to the Bowyer Community Building Saturday. Ride organizer -- and Wade's mother -- Gail Barrett says the venue change shows how much the event has grown over the past 10 years.

The event is not the only thing which has grown, as Barrett tells KVOE News Wade's Warriors are now expanding their reach beyond just Lyon County.

Due to inclement weather this year's event had a few schedule adjustments including the motorcycle poker ride being cancelled. Despite the change, however, the rest of the day's activities including a cornhole tournament, additional vehicle poker run and silent auction still went on as scheduled with a wonderful turnout from local residents.
