While the merger between Westar Energy and KCP&L was formalized over a year ago, Monday officially marked the dawn of a new single entity with the rollout of the company's new name Evergy.

While customers will notice some similarities to the past, such as the company's outage map and customer service, there will be several noticeable differences according to Evergy spokesperson Gina Penzig.

Penzig adds one major purpose for the merger was the ability to provide more innovative customer service and invest in new systems which help provide a better customer experience. Another reason for the merger according to Penzig was stabilized prices for customers.



Evergy now serves roughly 1.6 million customers in Kansas and Missouri. Customers in Lyon County and neighboring counties will now be in the Evergy Kansas Central region.
