Relatively balmy conditions will head out the door, at least for the short term.

The National Weather Service has issued a freeze watch for Lyon, Coffey, Osage and Wabaunsee counties from 10 pm Friday to 8 am Saturday. A freeze warning is now up for Chase and Morris counties from 10 pm Thursday to 10 am Friday.

This reflects overnight lows in the mid-30s Thursday night and right around freezing Friday night. TV-13 meteorologist Doug Meyers says it may actually be too breezy to have a more widespread freeze Thursday night.

Meyers also says this will not be a hard freeze, but people should protect their plants as best they can the next two nights.

Temperatures Thursday will top out around 70 by midday but could fall to the low to upper 50s by early evening. Temperatures will rebound quickly, with weekend highs in the 60s and overnight lows in the low 40s.
