Payment for a new improvement project at the Lyon County Courthouse was approved during the Lyon County Commissions weekly action session Thursday morning.

Commissioners approved the use of funds to provide new audio and video equipment in three courtrooms. According to District Court Administrator Ruth Wheeler the new equipment will include a switcher and computer within the courtroom podiums.

She says this will make the presentation of evidence simpler for attorneys by allowing them to plug devices, such as USB drives, directly into the podium.

The cost of the project is just over $9,000 and will be paid for utilizing funds from both the court's operating budget and the Lyon County Diversion budget which will each cover half the cost, or just over $4,800. The project is being handled in part by Electronic Contracting Co. of Wichita who will be installing the switchers and the Lyon County IT Department who will handle the installation of the new computers.

Commissioners then spent the remainder of their meeting within executive sessions. The Lyon County Commission will reconvene for their weekly action session at 8 am next Thursday inside the Lyon County Courthouse.
