The fifth annual Lap the Lakes Gravel Grinder is coming Saturday.

Riders will launch from 717 Commercial Street at 8 am for either a 100 or 200 km bike ride which will take them around several local lakes. Organizer and Emporia Police Department Benefit Association President Jaffar Agha says this year's course will have riders passing Lake Kahola, Reading Lake and Council Grove Lake.

Agha describes the event as a much more scenic ride for cycling enthusiasts. Proceeds from the ride benefit both the Emporia Police Department Benefit Association and Camp Alexander.

With temperatures expected to be frigid in the early morning hours Saturday, riders are encouraged to dress warmly for the event. Support vehicles will be out around the course to assist riders if needed and there will be checkpoints at each lake with food and drink for participants.

You can find the full course route online at RidewithGPS.com. For more information find Lap the Lakes Gravel Grinder on Facebook.
