Two years into the Downtown Emporia Bars Association's Oktoberfest venture, it's apparent the event is taking hold.

A longer list of activities led to a larger turnout in the 10 block of West Seventh on Saturday. Spokesman Rick Becker says the Bars Association is focused on creating a family-friendly atmosphere for its version of Oktoberfest.

The event featured food trucks, a cornhole tournament, two stein-holding contests, kids activities, an appearance by the Emporia Arts Center's Artmobile, the first-ever partnership with Beard Team Kansas as that group held its now-annual OctoBeard contest as part of the overall event and -- yes -- beer. Music was also a feature of the event, with Weda Skirts, Tarnished Brass and Brickhorse performing.

Becker says next year's event could see more games and more bands, but discussions for the 2020 event are just in the early stages.
