Residents in Lyon County showed up in droves to Flint Hills Mall to cast their vote for the Nov. 5 general election Saturday.

For the second straight year, the Lyon County Election Office offered voters a special off-site voting opportunity at the mall. The event ran in conjunction with Healthier Lyon County's annual interactive health fest, and Lyon County Clerk Tammy Vopat believes this action helped bolster voter turnout as the event saw close to a hundred residents cast their votes within the first hour.

Vopat believes many items on this year's ballot helped increase turnout as well, including the USD 253 $78 million bond issue.

Vopat says Saturday's offsite event is exactly what voters will see when they show up to polling places on Nov. 5 or take part in the advanced voting process. Speaking of advanced voting, residents may begin casting their votes at the Lyon County Courthouse Monday.

Advanced voting will run Monday through Friday from 8 am to 5 pm up until Nov. 4. A total of 232 voters took part in Saturday's offsite event.
