The Emporia Granada Theatre was nearly sold out Wednesday for Straight No Chaser, an a cappella group from Indiana, who performed as a fundraising effort for the Emporia Arts Center.

Forming as a college a cappella group at Indiana University (IU) in 1996, Straight No Chaser did not become a mainstream sensation until a video of their 1998 live performance went viral online in 2006. Singing their own renditions of popular songs like Rolling in the Deep, All-Star and more, the group now has seven albums and four EPs under their belt, as well as having performed in several countries across the world. The group's roster is a compilation of the 1996 original members and newcomers, also from IU.

The EAC only holds large-scale fundraising events around every three years. EAC Executive Director Dawn Young says the money raised will help with community outreach.

Young also expresses her gratitude for the philanthropic community here in Emporia and surrounding areas. For more information on the Arts Council, visit www.emporiaksarts.org.

Straight No Chaser will next be performing in Conway, Arkansas on Nov. 7. To see more on Straight No Chaser, visit www.sncmusic.com.
