Both the Emporia Municipal Airport and Coffey County Airport are receiving federal money for improvements.

The Municipal Airport south of Emporia is receiving almost $500,000 to buy land for approaches. The Coffey County Airport north of Burlington is getting $3.7 million to rebuild its runway and rebuild lighting.

This is the second round of grant announcements for the airports this year, and the stated goals now are the same as they were for the grant announcements this past summer. In July, Coffey County Airport got over $4 million, while the Emporia airport got $360,000.

The grants were announced by the Department of Transportation. Over 100 airports in 48 states received funding.
