The holiday season is upon us, and the David Traylor Zoo will help to kick off the season with its annual Happy Holidaze lighting ceremony Tuesday.

Activities will abound. Here's Zoo Director Lisa Keith:

In addition, some of Santa's helpers will also be on hand.

The lighting ceremony will be on the west side this year instead of the east side. Upcoming construction is moving the ceremony from Zoo Road to the concession stand area. Keith says the change means fewer lights to be lit, but Keith says around 101,000 bulbs and over 20,000 feet of lights have been strung at the zoo.

Eddie and Nancy Gilpin won the right to flip the ceremonial switch during the Emporia Friends of the Zoo Roundup Auction earlier this year. Their granddaughters, Maddie and Bridget, will likely do the flipping shortly after 5:30 pm. Lights will remain on evenings through New Year's Eve.
