A Wichita woman was hurt after apparently turning her car broadside on the Kansas Turnpike in southwest Lyon County and having the car hit by two much larger vehicles afterward.

The Kansas Highway Patrol says 35-year-old Sophea Phol was originally southbound in the outside lane. Shortly after 3:15 pm, she stopped in the highway, backed up and turned the car broadside at milepost 119.5, or about eight miles southwest of Emporia. A semi driven by 47-year-old Brian Chamberlain of Beloit, Wisconsin, hit Phol's car on the rear driver's side area. Phol then began driving north against traffic and was hit by a charter bus driven by 61-year-old Jesus Ramirez of El Paso, Texas.

Phol was taken to Newman Regional Health with suspected serious injuries. She was wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash. No one else involved was hurt.

The Highway patrol does not say what led Phol to turn her car broadside on the Turnpike.
