Weather-related issues were isolated as high winds briefly impacted the KVOE listening area Tuesday night into early Wednesday.


Aside from Polycarts being knocked over or small tree limbs being blown down, there has been no significant impact in Emporia and no reports of issues in Lyon County despite winds approaching 50 mph late Tuesday night.

No weather-related damage was reported in Chase, Coffey or Osage counties, but Greenwood County fire crews battled a grass fire that developed about two miles east of Hamilton and pushed east close to a mile before firefighters got it under control. The cause has not been listed. Greenwood County crews also helped to douse a large grass fire that developed near Longton around 7:30 pm and forced some evacuations before it was finally contained around 3 am Wednesday.

Wind gusts got as high as 75 mph near Coffeyville.
