As local residents prepare for a full day of eating Thursday, the Lyon County Extension Office is encouraging residents to slip in a little activity between plates.

Lyon County Extension Family and Community Wellness agent Emily Prouse says everyone should enjoy their Thanksgiving meal, however, you don't have to devour everything in sight. Prouse recommends planning out your meal before you dig in.

Prouse also suggests mixing up some of your Thanksgiving favorites.

Once you have finished your meal and let your food digest, getting out and getting active is a great idea between dinner and dessert. Good activities would include taking a walk, playing games with lots of movement or simply tossing around a football.

If the weather is not cooperative Prouse suggests simply playing a card game as a healthy alternative as stretching your mind is just as important as stretching your muscles. For more information contact the Lyon County Extension Office or visit www.Lyon.k-state.edu.
