Three vehicle accident in downtown Emporia sends one to Newman Regional Health Monday Tagan Trahoon/KVOE News

One person was taken to Newman Regional Health following a three-vehicle collision in downtown Emporia early Monday afternoon.

According to Emporia Police Lt. Scott Stormont, an S10 pickup truck was travelling eastbound on 5th Avenue when the driver suffered a currently undisclosed "medical condition" causing him to run through a stop sign. At the same time, a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck was travelling southbound on Merchant Street and collided with the S10 pickup in the intersection.

Lt. Stormont says the S10 kept travelling and collided with a parked Volkswagen Beetle. Lt. Stormont says the driver of the pickup was "passed out" when authorities arrived on scene and was later taken to Newman with currently unknown injuries.

Both the S10 pickup and Silverado were towed from the scene. Traffic in the intersection was blocked for roughly 45 minutes as a result of the accident.
