Local zoning experts are moving into the next steps as it pertains to the updated Plan ELC Zoning regulations following the conclusion of a series of informational workshops last week.

Lyon County Zoning and Floodplain Manager Sam Seeley, a recent guest of KVOE's Talk of Emporia, says each of the workshops were well attended and generated a large amount of feedback from the local community. According to Seeley, that feedback will be vital as zoning experts set their sights on the development of their third draft.

According to Seeley, once the third draft is complete there will be an additional discussion period, however, they will not be holding informational workshops as they did with this most recent draft. Seeley says there is currently no deadline for when the third draft may be completed or made available, however, he says they are shooting for between 30 to 60 days.

A commonly held belief many residents appeared to have during the recent workshops was that the new regulations were not a "good fit" for the city of Emporia. Seeley responded to this concern by stating the proposed changes to the regulations are "universal" as to what you would expect to see for a community the size of Emporia.

Seeley invites any and all residents to attend both the city and county planning board meetings where the regulations will be discussed at length and clarification can be delved out to those who have lingering questions or concerns.

The next Lyon County Planning Board meeting will be taking place this Wednesday at 7 pm at the Lyon County Courthouse Annex.
