Emporia Fire Crews made quick work of a reported structure fire at Emporia's Hostess production facility.

Emporia Fire and Emporia Police responded around 6 pm. Friday evening. Moderate smoke was seen coming from the north wall shortly after that.

According to Emporia Fire Batallion Chief Eron Steinlage the fire was contained to the vents located in one of the facility's cooking areas.

Steinlage says the cause of the fire was due to an undisclosed cooking accident.

Steinlage says the damage to the vents was minimal and the only cleanup will likely be for the water and foam used to extinguish the fire.

Steinlage also confirmed the affected area was the same area involved in a fire April 20 that damaged the donut fryer area. That fire damaged four different vents and led to the evacuation of the plant and injuries for one Emporia firefighter before it was extinguished. Production was offline for a few hours for most Hostess wares and for donuts two days after the April fire.
