Large crowds gathered for the Emporia Senior Center's inaugural Christmas Gala making the holiday event a large community success.

Seats were filled just after the doors opened at 5:30 pm on Friday evening. A dinner, cash bar, and live piano music made the atmosphere feel comfortable and seasonal. A live auction also took place later in the evening. All these components added to the seasonal event. ESC Board Secretary Karen Hartenbower says the Gala was created to aid in fundraising efforts.

The Christmas Gala, now planned to be an annual event going forward, will help fund several aspects of the Senior Center in need of care. Hartenbower goes over these needs.

This total cost is estimated at around $15,000.

Next year, the Senior Center will have a 'bakeless' bake sale on Jan. 23 and an assistive technology expo set for Apr. 15. For more information about upcoming activities, call (620) 343-3160 or find the Senior Center on Facebook.
