Gilligan pleased with new role as Ignite Emporia's director Featured

The five-year strategic plan known as Ignite Emporia now has a director.


Rob Gilligan, an Emporia city commissioner and a government relations specialist with the Kansas Association of School Boards, was announced Monday as the first director for the program.

Ignite Emporia is a five-year strategic plan designed to bolster local efforts in workforce development, housing development and revitalization, business retention and community development and marketing. Gilligan says this is a good time for those discussions, and he is impressed with the amount of unity among city leaders, the business community and the education sector moving forward.

Gilligan begins his new role Feb. 10.

Ignite Empora is launching into 2020 with a new director.

Rob Gilligan, an Emporia city commissioner and a government relations specialist with the Kansas Association of School Boards, has been chosen as the program’s leader. Gilligan also recently ended his term as chair of the Regional Development Association of East Central Kansas’ Board of Directors and also served on the Emporia Main Street Board of Directors from 2006-2012.

“I look forward to taking on this challenge of implementing the Ignite Emporia strategic plan and working with a variety of partners and investors that are coming together to put our community in a stronger position for future growth and success,” Gilligan said.

Ignite Emporia is a five-year strategic plan designed to bolster local efforts in workforce development, housing development and revitalization, business retention and community development and marketing. Emporia Area Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Jeanine McKenna said Gilligan was a valuable addition to the Chamber staff and “evidence we are committed to implementing a successful Ignite Emporia plan.”
