Emporia Fire crews handled a small house fire in west Emporia on Friday morning.

Crews were toned out to 1018 Sunnyslope around 8:50 am. Battalion Chief Eron Steinlage says a fire developed in a furnace motor. Crew members worked quickly to limit the fire to the motor, although there was light smoke in part of the house as well.

No injuries were reported.

Temperatures were in the single digits and wind chills were below zero when the fire was called.

This is the second straight day for Emporia Fire responding to a blaze in similar conditions. Fire on Thursday caused heavy damage to a house at 1305 Goura. Smoldering rags turned out to be the cause. No injuries were reported with that fire, either.
