Emporia's 14th annual Polar Plunge is headlining activities this weekend.

Mouse Lage and the Emporia Senior Center will be quite busy Saturday, with the Senior Center serving as the site for breakfast before and lunch afterward -- and Mouse Lake as both the site for the Plunge and the backdrop for the Polar Strut 5K. On KVOE's Newsmaker segment this week, organizer Shelly Lutes said there is a lively atmosphere surrounding the event.

Temperatures will be in the 30s for the Strut and could be in the 40s for the Plunge.

Registration cost is $75 for the Plunge and $30 for the Strut, which is the first race in the Emporia Recreation Commission's Super Series. Proceeds from these two events benefit Kansas Special Olympics. Cost for the meals is $7 a plate, with those proceeds benefiting Emporia's Special Olympians.

In addition, there is the 50-50 Pluck-A-Duck raffle and a separate raffle where participants that raise at least $100 are entered to win prizes ranging from $500 to $5,000.

For more information or to register, go online to www.plungeks.org. You can also register at the Senior Center from 8 to 10 am for the Plunge and 8 to 9:30 am for the Strut.
