Gas line punctured in southeast Emporia Chuck Samples/KVOE News

Emporia Fire blocked off part of a street in southeast Emporia as a precautionary move after a gas line puncture Monday afternoon.

Battalion Chief Eron Steinlage says firefighters were called to the intersection of Logan Avenue and Waren Way shortly before 3 pm. Kansas Gas Communications Director Dawn Tripp says a third party hit a line on Warren Way near the Simmons Pet Food complex. Steinlage later confirmed an Evergy crew hit the line despite nearby utilities being marked.

The original plan as reported by KVOE News was to shut off gas to the Simmons complex and several houses across Logan Avenue, but the plan to interrupt gas at Simmons was eventually changed and gas remained on for the campus.

No injuries have been reported.
