The David Traylor Zoo is tentatively set to open June 2.

The zoo won't go to the full schedule right away, but Director Lisa Keith hopes to jump into the regular schedule once the state enters Phase 3 of the coronavirus recovery plan, perhaps as soon as June 8. Once the zoo opens, Keith says there will be some changes for patrons.

Initial hours will be 10 am to 2 pm on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

Keith also said renovations continue at the zoo as the Oasis campaign has moved into the construction phase with the kookaburra exhibit getting moved. Keith hopes the exhibit will be finished soon, leading to the start of construction of the new entrance and renovated waterfowl pond next month.

Keith also brought up a recent equipment donation. The zoo recently obtained a Kawasaki Mule UTV from Mike and Karen Gerleman. Keith says the UTV will have several uses, including education programming, maintenance and special events at the zoo and offsite.
