CORONAVIRUS: Emporia's Memorial Day service now among virtual activities Chuck Samples/KVOE News

Like many things these days, this year's Memorial Day service is going virtual.

The Memorial Day service will air on 14 KVOE, 96.9 FM, KVOE-TV at KVOE.com and ValuNet channel 3, but it has already been recorded. Local veteran Ron Whitney says the original thought was to cancel outright before plans changed.

The service will include most of the traditional activities, including prayers, music, a 21-gun salute and Taps. Whitney will also have a brief history of the holiday and there will be a memorial roll call honoring the names of veterans who have passed away over the last 12 months.

The schedule has the on-air broadcast on 14 KVOE and 96.9 FM at 9:30 am. ValuNet will air the service at 9:30 am and 2:30 pm. KVOE.com will have the service available on the KVOE-TV Video tab starting at 9 am.
