The man accused of shooting a woman as part of an argument in Emporia last week has now been formally charged and will have a preliminary hearing next month.

Edgar Gilberto Gonzalez, 28, has been charged with two counts of aggravated battery and a count of aggravated burglary.

Emporia Police have said Gonzalez's arrest followed an argument at 1213 Beverly where a 35-year-old woman was shot early Friday. Court records provided to KVOE News indicate the investigation began after the woman was taken to Newman Regional Health with a gunshot wound to a leg. The woman reported waking up after being shot. The court affidavit says he has denied being part of the shooting.

Following a first appearance in Lyon County District Court on Wednesday, Gonzalez will have a preliminary hearing at 2 pm July 16 before Judge Jeff Larson. James Bordonaro has been appointed as legal counsel for Gonzalez.
