The Greater Emporia Area Disaster Relief Fund made its latest grant funding announcement on KVOE's On-Air Chat on Wednesday.

All told, $7,000 in grants were publicized on the program. Main Street Director Casey Woods announced the businesses receiving grants:

United Way Director Mickey Edwards did likewise for nonprofits.

Emporia Community Foundation Director Becky Nurnberg says other cities across Kansas are noticing what Emporia is doing with the relief fund.

The community continues its contributions in several ways. Besides the straight donations from the general public or charitable trusts, two local children set up a lemonade stand at Sixth and Sylvan on Wednesday. Annika Douglas and Estrella Pineda had lemonade, juice, Kool-Aid, popsicles and water for the cause. Douglas says they wanted to give back.

Douglas' parents run Leap of Faith Martial Arts Center, while Pineda's parents own Panaderia Progreso. Fundraising totals are pending.

In addition, a bowling tournament is now on the community calendar June 27. "Bowling for Businesses" will see five different start times and reduced lane availability at Flint Hills Lanes to account for social distancing, and organizer Josh Young says this will be a good way to bring the community together.

Entry fee is $100 for a team of five bowlers.

The relief fund, developed as a collaboration involving the Emporia Community Foundation, Emporia Main Street, United Way of the Flint Hills and KVOE, has now amassed over $190,000 in contributions and has disbursed almost $160,000 to businesses and nonprofits in an eight-county coverage area.
