If this week's weather forecast has you all hot and bothered, the Salvation Army can help with free fans.

The Salvation Army has 300 fans to give away absolutely free of charge, and it will have a special event from 2-4 pm Tuesday at the Salvation Army Annex, 209 West Fourth. Salvation Army Capt. Deb Thompson says the amount of fans to give away Tuesday is double the normal amount.

Two fans will be allowed per vehicle.

This comes at an opportune time with air temperatures in the upper 90s to around 100 degrees from Tuesday through Thursday. It also comes as the Salvation Army has had an increase in demand for services. Demand is getting back to normal for the food pantry, but Thompson says there is still a need.

Thompson also thanked the Greater Emporia Area Disaster Relief Fund for its recent donation of $1,500 to help the cause.

The food pantry needs a variety of items like boxed foods like helper meals, rice, breakfast foods and hygiene items. Thompson thanked community members for recent donations.
