Business is literally booming for local fireworks vendors just three days into the sales and discharge period in the local community.

According to Erin Rodriguez of Riley Fireworks, located five miles east of Emporia, fireworks have been flying off the shelves at a rapid pace they typically don't see this early on.

Rodriguez says it is rare to see larger items be purchased this soon into the sale and discharge period. Rodriguez attributes these sales to the city of Emporia canceling its Fourth of July fireworks show earlier this month.

She tells KVOE News many of their customers have said since there is no city fireworks show this year, many people have decided to "put on their own show." She says while the show's cancellation is regrettable, it has certainly increased their volume of sales.

Rodriguez says they are planning on making another trip to their retailer Wednesday to restock ahead of the Fourth of July itself. She encourages anyone who still needs to purchase their fireworks for the holiday to not wait until the last minute as there is a good chance the supplies you're looking for may be gone by the weekend.

Legal hours for the sale and discharge of fireworks are 10 am to 10 pm Saturday through Thursday, 10 am to 11 pm July 3-4 and 10 am to 10 pm July 5.
