Flu shots are starting to be more available in the community.

At Haag Pharmacy, owner Amber Haag encouraged everybody to get flu shots this fall.

Haag, Graves Drug, CVS, Walgreens and Walmart all have flu shots available. Most local pharmacies have both the low-dose for residents under age 65 and the high-dose vaccine for those over age 65, while Graves currently has low-dose vaccines available and high-dose vaccines are on order. Haag has the high-dose on hand by appointment with the low-dose vaccine possibly by the end of this week. Flu shots will also be readily available soon at Newman Regional Health and Flint Hills Community Health Center.

Health officials are urging flu shots this fall with concerns about influenza doubling up with coronavirus to create a so-called "twindemic" and possibly increasing stress on available hospital bed space through the winter.
