Saturday is the day for the second annual Grocery Grab, courtesy of the Emporia Rotary Club.

Club member Robin Newell says it's a fun event and a unique fundraiser for the area.

This past Saturday, the Rotary Club drew the names for the semifinalists: Jackie Schmidt, Jessica Crumb, Emily Velazquez, Sandy Laird, Abundant Harvest and Spartan Stop. They will all gather at 6:45 am this upcoming Saturday at Good's Cash Saver, and the selected winner will have a five-minute, almost unlimited run through the store. There is one minute in the meat aisle and certain items like beauty products, alcohol and tobacco are off limits.

Those that aren't chosen will receive a $50 gift certificate from Good's.

Newell says the event could generate close to $5,000 for Rotary Club projects, depending on how much merchandise is bought. Last year's winner, Carolee Conway, cleared almost $1,000 worth of items.
