The Salvation Army of Emporia formally kicks off its Christmas fundraising season Friday.

Major Deb Thompson says there will be a virtual kickoff on the agency's Facebook page at 9 am.

On KVOE's Talk of Emporia on Wednesday, Thompson announced the Real Estate Wednesday is set for Dec. 2 and will feature Farm and Home and Ek Real Estate at Walmart and Coldwell Banker Emporia Real Estate at Bluestem Farm and Ranch Supply. The annual Badges United, featuring representatives of Emporia Fire, Emporia Police and the Lyon County Sheriff's Office, is Dec. 12, also at Walmart and Bluestem Farm and Ranch.

In addition, bell-ringing starts Friday at seven local merchants. Bell ringers are being asked to mask up and observe social distancing guidelines.

All proceeds go into Salvation Army services for next year. More information is available by calling 342-3093 or by going to the Salvation Army of Lyon County in Emporia Kansas Facebook page.
