Callers from near and far all showed their support for teachers past and present during the 29th annual KVOE National Teacher's Hall of Fame Radio Auction Thursday evening.

The near three-decade-old tradition took a trip back to its roots Thursday evening by broadcasting live from the KVOE studios. For hours callers phoned in to place their bids for a number of wonderful items all to support induction activities and other efforts of the Hall of Fame.

KVOE General Manager Ron Thomas says KVOE is always proud to support the efforts of the Hall of Fame as well as all teachers across the country. He feels that support is more important now than ever before saying this year has been a "rough go" for everyone with the ongoing pandemic, but teachers in particular.

With the number of adjustments that have taken place over the past year for the Hall of Fame, including the postponement of announcing its five newest inductees and the cancellation of induction activities for the year, Hall of Fame Director Carol Strickland says she was ecstatic they were still able to hold the annual fundraiser.

She feels the auction has helped to reinstate a sense of normalcy not only for the Hall of Fame but the community as well.

This year's auction brought in a total of $14,215 for the Hall of Fame.

Induction activities for the 2020 Hall of Fame class are scheduled to take place in June. Due to the pandemic, there will be no 2021 Hall of Fame class so the 2020 inductees receive their full time in the spotlight according to Strickland.
