Holiday Resort has launched a new program to help spread some additional holiday cheer to its residents.

Adopt a Resident launched last Friday and so far the reception has been terrific according to Holiday Resort Spokesperson Jamie Hensley. During KVOE's Newsmaker segment Tuesday Hensley stated that just a week into the new program 60 plus residents had already been adopted by community members.

Hensley says the program came about as Holiday Resort has had to shut down visitations since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. With residents not being able to interact with their loved ones this holiday season, the nursing home wanted to do something to spread a little more cheer to their occupants.

The nursing home has assigned a number to each of their 80 plus residents and developed individual Christmas lists for each one. Community members who sign up to adopt a resident will receive this list and may purchase items that are and aren't on the list.

All gifts need to be returned to Holiday Resort by Dec. 16 at the latest. Double adoptions are allowed for residents and Hensley says it is her hope that all residents will be adopted twice.
