The school year is now back in full swing and area Superintendents are very pleased to have their students back in the classroom.

USD 386 Madison Virgil Superintendent Stu Moeckel recently joined KVOE's Morning Show to update the start of the 2021 spring semester. According to Moeckel, the resumption of classes has gone well with staff, students and families all expressing their excitement to be back in session.

Moeckel tells KVOE, the most difficult aspect of the school year so far has been the change in everyday routines. This includes not holding daily assemblies at the elementary level and or staff simply not being able to congregate in the hallways between classes.

Despite the changes, Moeckel believes several important lessons have been learned by staff, students and even administrators this year. He says at the administrative level the district has picked up some handy new options from a digital perspective.

Additionally, Moeckel says a major talking point for the district, and many others has been student "seat time."

Moeckel says the district was fortunate that it began the spring semester with little to no new COVID-19 cases being reported.

KVOE will continue to check in with area school districts on a regular basis as the academic year continues to unfold.
