An investigation continues into the recent discovery of a homemade firework under strange circumstances in Osage City earlier this month.

Osage City Police officers were alerted to a suspicious explosive near Dogwood Glen Apartments, 519 North 12th, on Jan. 12. An unnamed resident of the complex later reported being away from his apartment for several weeks, finding the device in his bathroom. The resident took the device outside to a vacant area and called 911.

Officers got help from the Topeka Airport Authority in analyzing the device, which appeared to be a homemade firework instead of some other form of explosive. The department says there was no risk to public safety.

Officers say homemade fireworks are illegal and it's asking for information from the public as its investigation continues. If you have information, call Osage City Police at 785-528-3131.
