Details haven't been announced, but US Senator Jerry Moran is coming to Emporia this week. And he's bringing a special guest.

Moran will be accompanied by Veterans Affairs Secretary Denis McDonough for several stops across Kansas, including a visit to Newman Regional Health either Thursday or Friday.

The overall goal is to visit VA health care centers across the state, but the visit to Emporia reflects a chance to visit a VA partner after the adoption of the VA Mission Act in 2018. This program expands healthcare options for veterans largely through its Community Care approach -- which gives vets the option of going to non-VA providers for care and treatment based on certain eligibility requirements. This also comes after the VA announced earlier this year that an Accessing Telehealth through Local Area Stations, or ATLAS, pod is coming to the Emporia American Legion at some point in the future.

The Emporia stop is one of six Moran and McDonough are making in Kansas this week.
